3 out of 5 stars Excellent, but the same old issue...   November 20, 2007

This is an absolutely superb bit of kit. See the customer reviews elsewhere below.
BUT - and this is a very big but - the Ixus range has been quite well known in the past for the lens sticking open (or shut), and the camera throwing an error. Mine has just done this, 3 weeks after the warranty ended.
There are countless examples of people with the same problem - and I'm not sure how good Canon are at admitting this is an issue.

Overall - 5 stars for the camera (without a doubt). Then take 2 off for the problem, leaving 3.

3 out of 5 stars A good camera but a weakness....   August 18, 2007

Think it may have a built in weakness. Had mine for about 8 months, opening battery compartment to charge externally and replace sd card on average once a week when the micro switch - tiny bit of black plastic - broke and had to be replaced. I am not heavy handed -- it should have been made of metal. Similar problem with cf card compartment lid on first Ixus was plastic, which was changed on later models to metal

I have had a Canon Ixus II (3.2mp) for a number of years. But with a new arrival in the family, I wanted to upgrade. My priorities were to be able to point and shoot quickly and produce good quality photos. I read many reviews both on Amazon and elsewhere, and the Canon Ixus 900 Ti came out on top. The big pluses with this camera for me are:
- very quick from turning on to being able to take a photo
- big viewing screen (but still has viewfinder which is handy when battery power is running low when you are out and about and you can turn off the display to save power)
- easy to use and straightforward software
- and most importantly - very good photos!
The camera isn't as thin and sleek as some others on the market, but it does feel robust and lightweight. The optical zoom is adequate, and to get better you have to compromise on size (personal choice).
All in all, very pleased!

2 out of 5 stars Promises much but disappointing   June 4, 2007

Having owned a 4MP Ixus 400 for several years it was time to upgrade, so I naturally chose the highest MP camera in the Ixus range. This camera has all the bells and whistles, and is very well-designed and constructed, but is let down by poor picture quality. Pictures lack sharpness across the frame and are particularly fuzzy in the corners. A replacement was even worse so I have bought a Fuji FinePix F31fd instead, having looked at all the on-line reviews I could. At 6.3MP and 130 this camera might be expected to be inferior in quality but the pictures are superb, sharp to the corners and - if you want it - you have control over shutter speed and aperture. This is lacking in the 900Ti, which tends to select ridiculously high shutter speeds coupled with full aperture (and hence poorer quality). If taking pictures is about the quality of the end result, forget the Ixus and go for something else.
