| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description Panasonic has stepped into the world of high definition videos with the Lumix DMC-TZ5. The Lumix DMC-TZ5 has a 28 mm wide-angle setting to fit sweeping landscapes into a single frame, and a telephoto setting to pull in subjects from far away and capture even the subtlest details in facial expressions. It records video in 720p and is equipped with a 10-megapixel sensor, with a high sensitivity range going up to 6400 ISO and a light detection system with several levels. Gone are the days of problems caused by backlighting and overexposure, because the Panasonic TZ5 comes with a Mega O.I.S image stabiliser and a 9-point AF focus, meaning you can pinpoint faces in photos and ensure subjects' natural skin tones are maintained. For backgrounds, the DMC-TZ5 has an intelligent flash with red-eye reduction and slow synchronisation modes, which help to prevent colour alteration. There is also a number of colour, scene and automatic modes, allowing you to really explore your creative side. As well as being compatible with Pictbrige, the Lumix DMC-TZ5 also has an HD audio/video output so you can enjoy your creations on an HD TV using an optional component video cable.

A class leader December 30, 2008 Paul Madge (West Sussex UK) 17 out of 17 found this review helpful
In this review I am seeking to reconcile the divergent (although mostly favourable) views that have been expressed about this camera (this includes the 3 colour variants, silver, black and blue). I have billed this as a "class leader" because it succeeds in the niche it is designed to occupy. It is a compact but (not ultra compact)camera with a substantial zoom - at 10x its zoom is significantly greater than most of its competitors. I find it ideal for taking on holiday etc. but, clearly, it is not as versatile as a digital SLR and does not produce results of the the same calibre either. However, these limitations have to be seen in context - it is a small, sub- 200 camera with the novelty of a powerful zoom, and, in my view and judged in this way it offers good performance and value but not perfection. The same principle applies when judging the HD video capabilities of the TZ5 - it is good in the context of its market position but it is not comparable to a purpose built HD video camera costing twice as much. In summary, this is a well featured and constructed camera that is easy to use and which will reward you with good quality but not perfect results. To expect more at this price/size point would be asking too much by the standards of current technology. Providing these limitations/compromises are recognised the TZ5 represents an excellent buy which I believe few will be disappointed with.

Panasonic DMCTZ5 Digital Camera - Black (9.1MP, 10x Optical Zoom) 3.0" LCD Pros. This camera is easy to use and takes stunning pictures and excellent movies in high resolution. It has a fine 3ins display/viewfinder and a good menu system, its 10 times zoom lens is great and gets you real close up.The anti shake and face detection work well. Cons. Battery life not the best (get a spare). Movie sound in mono (not such a problem) The best camera I've owned highly recommeded.
Premium digital camera with an impressive video mode August 22, 2008 Josh W 93 out of 95 found this review helpful
If you're only ever going to buy one digital camera in your entire life, then this is the one to buy. The camera offers an excellent wide angle 10x optical zoom lens with image stabilisation, all in a relatively compact body that will fit in your pocket. Image quality is also excellent, and despite more noise than average, detail is very good. The camera provides an abundance of features, and has an impressive 3" screen. The camera features a very clever "Intelligent Auto" mode and makes using the camera easy, and fun, and provides an abundance of scene modes for beginners. For those looking for more creativity the camera features manual white balance, exposure bracketing, rapid continuous shooting, a histogram, and other image options. Add in an impressive widescreen HD video mode (1280x720 at 30fps) that lets you use the optical zoom whilst filming and you have a very impressive all-round package, all squeezed into a stylish, metal camera. Battery life is also good - I was able to take 275 shots on one charge. Highly Recommended.
